The crown of Empress Eugenia, which was dropped by thieves during quick looting of the Louvre in October 2025, it was damaged, but has almost all the parts and can be fully restored, announced one of the most famous and most visited museums in the world.
It is estimated that the thieves committed the crime in October last year. Jewelry worth 88 million euros stolen, but during their escape they left behind a diamond-encrusted crown that belonged to the wife of Napoleon III.
The museum has released the first photos of the crown after the robbery, saying it was “very deformed” after thieves tried to force it through a narrow hole made in the glass case in which it was displayed.
One of the eight golden eagles and ten of the 1.354 diamonds that adorned it are missing.
All 56 jewels remain on it.
The 19th-century crown will be restored to its original appearance, the museum added.
A group of experts, led by museum director Laurence de Carre, will oversee the restoration.
During the robbery on October 19, 2025, the thieves used a vehicle with a crane to climb onto the balcony from which they entered the Apolo Gallery.

Two thieves entered the gallery after cutting the glass in the window with a tool.
They then threatened the guards and cut the glass on two boxes displaying jewelry that once belonged to the French royal family.
Prosecutors said the thieves were in the gallery for less than four minutes before fleeing on scooters waiting for them outside.

The police arrested four people who the prosecution suspects robbery or aiding and abetting, but she did not find their client.
Seven pieces of jewelry are still missing, including a diamond tiara that once belonged to Eugenie, as well as necklaces, earrings and brooches.
