ATLANTA— A routine Delta Air Lines (DL) flight from Minneapolis–Saint Paul (MSP) to San Francisco (SFO) turned dramatic upon arrival when law enforcement officers boarded the aircraft and arrested a pilot on July 26, 2025.
Delta Air Lines Flight 2809 experienced a minor delay due to fog-induced low visibility, requiring a go-around before safely landing at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
Moments after the Boeing 757 reached the gate, multiple Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officers boarded the aircraft and detained one of the flight’s pilots, View from the Wing reported.
Delta 757 Pilot Arrested at SFO
The unexpected arrest occurred on July 25, 2025, at the end of Delta Air Lines Flight 2809. According to a passenger on board, approximately 10 law enforcement officers rushed to the front of the aircraft upon arrival.
Among them were agents from Homeland Security Investigations, a division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Eyewitnesses stated that officers “stormed the cockpit” and quickly removed the pilot without any prior disturbance or warning during the flight.
The other pilot appeared visibly confused and told nearby passengers that he was unaware of the arrest plan. This suggests the operation was intentionally kept confidential to prevent tipping off the suspect.
Delta Air Lines (DL) has not released any statement regarding the arrest and instead directed all inquiries to law enforcement authorities. At the time of writing this article, the DHS has not provided official details or clarification regarding the nature of the arrest or the pilot’s alleged offense.

The arrest was carried out swiftly and professionally by Swedish authorities. The pilot was removed from the aircraft and taken into custody before the flight could proceed.
The aircraft, prepped for a transatlantic journey to New York (JFK), remained grounded, and passengers were later disembarked and informed of the cancellation.
